Awards 2008

Weymouth Cougars annual presentation day at the Willowbed Hall, Chickerell once again proved to be a huge success. Several hundred people enjoyed a fun day in the Weymouth sunshine culminating in the presentation of the individual awards.

Jim Halls deputising for Chairman Pat Crane spoke of the successes both on and off the pitch and the marvellous efforts of our fund raising teams. A special word of thanks went to our many sponsors without whose kind patronage the club would not be able to function. Terry White (Snap On Tools) was on hand to present his own outstanding performance trophy to Lewis Richards.

Fund raising is the very life’s blood of any amateur organization and many people have given up their spare time to help with the various events throughout the year. Special tribute was paid to Maggie Hallett for her contribution which helped to subsidise the clubs trip to the new Wembley stadium. Also to all those who helped make this years Summer Sixes an outstanding success which has once again secured the club’s financial future for the coming season.

The club was keen to acknowledge the contribution made by three people who will be leaving the club before the start of next season. Ken Hansford has been with us for 9 years and was last season’s Vice Chairman. Andrea Hawkins and Penny Alexander were the Joint Secretaries last year and will be a hard act to follow. We thank you all and wish you success in the future.

Many people during the course of the season had contributed to the clubs success and he thanked all of our Players, Parents, Managers and many helpers for their efforts. The awards are presented to those individuals who have achieved personal excellence but we must not forget the contribution made by all of our prize winners teammates and Cougars continues to measure success by the numbers of youngsters playing and enjoying their Sunday football with the club.

Four trophies were awarded to each team as listed and medals were awarded to all who represented the club during the 2007/8 season. Every year a special trophy is kindly donated by the parents of the late, and sadly missed, John Clarke. The recipient of this year’s outstanding achievement award was Mark Richards.
